I am getting the error as "Windows service could not be started". Please advice.

Hi, I'm trying to figure out what is going on with my mysql setup. I first installed apache then php and it was working then I installed mysql and I can't seem to connect using this in a .php page:

I do have my real password in it when I run it.

The weird thing is that the above code gives me a blank page in chrome. In ie I get a 500 error. I know that php works because when I add a echo "hello"; in front of $con it displays it correctly in chrome. However, it still gives me a 500 error in ie. Does anyone know what is going on? I also don't know how to access the error log. Does anyone know where that is?

I installed the Mysql workbench and the Mysql community server on my pc ( win xp 32 bit ) , the first time I installed the server it worked fine , the line came up and said if you need help type /help or whatever , but now no matter what I do I can't get the server to start , I reinstalled it like 3 times did registry cleaner , system cleaner and restarted my pc with no luck still ,heres my code :

Hi

what is the best way to upgrade binary installed mysql server from 5.0 to 5.1 without reloading the running DBs to minimize the downtime??

my case is, I have mysql-server 5.0 binary installed on RHEL 5 (and Centos 5) using mysql RedHat version. I want to upgrade to mysql-server 5.1 but RH repo does not provide mysql 5.1 yet.

I downloaded mysql server packages from mysql.com but I could not do "rpm -Uvh" on mysql.com packages and got some errors and seems rpm system deals with them as a different packages and refuse to upgrade the already installed RH mysql packages.

I have installed the server then I run the instance configurator but when it wants to start the server it says cannot start the server Error:0.
Once I stopped and removed the server and reinstalled the server but it didn't work again.
any ideas to solve this?

I had a PC crash that is running Mysql 5.0 32bit on vista 64bit machine.

Now the MYSQL service will not start.!!!

The innodb is a very large ibdata1 at 24.2 gigs. stored on a mirrored 1TB D drive.
the ib_logfile0 and ib_logfile1 are stored on the C drive under
C:\MYSQL\MySQL Server 5.0\data

I am afraid that if I reinstall mysql that I will loose this data???
Is there a way to reinstall mysql and address the same database with out damaging it or loosing it?

HELP... with a step by step procedure would really be great!!

Ideally I would like to set op a dedicated Ubuntu 10.04 server with only MySQL to prevent this in the future. Windows is just not stable enough for me considering all I do with this machine.

Is there anyway I can install mysql on ubuntu and just copy the innodb and ib_logfile0 and ib_logfile1 to a directory on ubuntu and put this back together???

Any help is greatly appreciated

initially I have mysql working, however I wanted to move the data files to another partition/filesystem, i.e. I decided to move from /var/lib/mysql to /mysql_data/mysql.

I downloaded
mysql-5.1.49-solaris10-x86_64.pkg.gz ;

mysql-5.1.49-solaris10-sparc-64bit.pkg.gz ; and

mysql-5.1.49-solaris10-i386.pkg.gz .

I compared md5 checksums. O.K..

Gunzipped files , even put them in /var/spool/pkg .

Neither of the three architechtures recognised the gunzipped .pkg files as valid packages [on their respective machines].

I changed the filenames to contain only one dot [before.pkg], and tried again.

No joy.

Please illuminate my dimly lit knowledge bases.

Any ideas?

Hello,

We currently run 5.1 on Windows 2008.
We have the innodb engine as the default

our database would be a small-medium size, i guess.
about 600GB in size and grows by about 400MB per day.
we have at least 1.5 million inserts/updates/deletes per day.

Due to some issues with the windows server, and the fact that there are more tools on the linux system, we are trialling a linux install of MySQL.

However, i found that innodb is not enabled/installed by default?

What I was wondering is what options should I enable when running configure to:
(a) enable innodb (i think just --with-package-innodb)
(b) any other options needed for innodb?
(c) we may look at replication later so what options are needed for replication?
(d) enable options to make the linux instance as close to that of the default windows install
(e) any other options that you don't get as easily on windows but make for a fuller-featured system? i know that is a bit broad but i would be interested in others' options
(f) any options for management tools, either MySQL-based or 3rd party (like phpMyAdmin, etc.)
(g) any options for high-throughput databases?

not much, i know, and a bit broad!

Trouble starting MySQL on Mac OS X Unix system (no replies)

I'm teaching myself PHP and MySQL and have installed everything needed to run MySQL. I installed it a few weeks ago, and was able to get it working and entered a few tables via the terminal and php script. I left it alone for a few weeks, and now I tried to open up MySQL and here are the problems I get:

1) I type in /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -u root
this used to open mysql up and allow me to start creating databases. Now it says: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

2) I didn't know what that meant, but I went and checked the status in my system preferences MySQL tab. It says the MySQL Server is Stopped. So I clicked "Start MySQL Server". It does not start, it stays stopped. I also have tried starting it directly in the terminal with:

sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server start

It displays "Starting MySQL...." then displays: "ERROR! Manager of pid-file quit without updating file."

I haven't changed anything since the last time that I used it, the only thing I can think of is I installed the latest OS X system update. I'm new to all this, so I don't know what much of the technical syntax means at all, so try not to overwhelm me with technical stuff without explaining it as you go along.

Sorry if this is a trivial question. I wonder if there is a way to install and run several instances of mySQL (each on a separate server) that will all share the same data files? Only one instance will do writes (insert/update/deletes) while the other instances will perform the reads.
The idea is to have several instances that act like slaves but without doing the replication. The storage engine is Innodb. Currently there are 4 slaves each having their data set. However, since we are planning to upgrade the storage to a super fast storage with extremely low latency we would like to use just one set of data files that will be shared by several instances.
Any suggestion will be appreciated

Hey Guys

I don't know whether this is the right place to ask this question or not, but i am having a tough time make an OLEDB connection using visual studio 2010. I know workaround is using ODBC or connector, but just wanted to make a connection using OLEDB for now.

Kindly let me know from where can i get oledb provider for mysql (except for cherrycity)....also, does mysql still provide an oledb provider for .net app...

Any help appreciated
