Install and ODBC problem (no replies)

I'm having a problem connecting to a new MySQL 64bit installation using odbc with a W2008 server. I've successfully installed the odbc 5.2.2 64bit connector and have successfully configured a system DSN using it. When I use that ODBC connection from an application, I get the error, "The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application." I've checked on the web and get various solutions including installing the 32 bit ODBC connector instead of the 64bit, installing an older version of the connector, etc. If I try to install a 32 bit version, the driver does not appear in the driver list in ODBC regardless of what connector version I use - so that doesn't seem to be an option. The application I'm trying to connect from is Visual Studio 2010, which, I thought was a 64 bit application, so I'm unsure what's going on. Can someone please explain in simple terminology because I'm new to this?

Thanks

Jeff

This is my first attempt at installing mysql.

I've run the package install from the .dmg and installed workbench.

I do not find the /etc/my.cnf file.

Do I need to manually run mysql_install_db or did I miss something?

I know very little SQL, but am somewhat familar by viewing the sQL code from within MS Access. I want to learn SQL. Can anyone suggest something free out there that I can write the code in for training purposes? I am able to find a lot of free training tools online but what application can I download to write the SQL code in? Are there any sample databases available for free? Does anyone have any suggestions for good basic training sites?

We installed MQSQL on our Mac Mini running 10.8.2. All is working great except for this:

The configuration file (Also called option file) does not exist . In some threads I read that I have to create that file in the suggested default location. I only need 1 global setting changed: wait_timeout parameter

I assume that creating the option file will only override the changes I put in there?

Empty pages in MySQL database (2 replies)

Hello,

My experience with MySQL is extremely limited.

Does anyone know of a simple way in which to display all pages within a Wordpress blog, which have no main content? I'm desperately trying to find a way of cleaning up the database, and removing unnecessary pages is the first step.

Any reply much appreciated.

Finding where MySQL has installed (no replies)

I have a number of virtual servers all running CentOS 5.8 (some 64bit). All up to date with patches.

I log in as root move to / and type “yum install mysql” and it installs mysql-5.0.95-1.el5_7.1.i386. But Webmin does not find it and start it in most cases. There is not a file /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld

I do have 2 servers that do find mysql, but these are not servers I need or want mysql on. I have copied the file /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld from one of them to the ones that do not work and I get

chown: `mysql:mysql': invalid user
Initializing MySQL database: /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions: line 500: /usr/bin/mysql_install_db: No such file or directory
[FAILED]
chown: `mysql:mysql': invalid user

What is the likely reason the install has not put a file in /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld for which I have write rights?

Any ideas on why some installs work and some do not, given that I am using the same command to the same OS?

All donations gratefully received.

Tony

I'm trying to install mysql on Debian (I know, a different distro, but I guess you will be able to help me anyway) by entering the following line:
dpkg -i mysql-5.5.28-debian6.0-x86_64.deb

After doing this and running the following command I still get error messages.

Command: /opt/mysql/server5.5/bin/mysqld start

Error messages:
121114 14:43:28 [Warning] Can't create test file /opt/mysql/server-5.5/data/VM11.lower-test
121114 14:43:28 [Warning] Can't create test file /opt/mysql/server-5.5/data/VM11.lower-test
./mysqld: Can't change dir to '/opt/mysql/server-5.5/data/' (Errcode: 2)
121114 14:43:28 [ERROR] Aborting
121114 14:43:28 [Note] ./mysqld: Shutdown complete

What am I missing here?

I installed MySQL server on my dedicated server and tried to login like normal. I got promoted asking for a password when there shouldn't be one since it is a brand new fresh install of MySQL. I tried resetting the password and it worked all the way until I exited safemode and tried to login normally, and the pass I set didn't work. Any ideas?

I keep trying to install from

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/installer/

with everything standard A1, all default choices throughout the installation dialog, but I keep ending up at the last stage where details of failure come out as

I use Windows 7 on a 32-bit system. I don't use any exotic settings that I could well imagine would interfere with the installation process, least of all because it goes through to the end and then fails as above.

I would love for anyone knowledgeable to tell me what I should do about this, or point me in the direction of the right, specifically relevant material to read up on. I am both interested in this particular fish and in learning to fish myself. Very grateful for anything constructive.

Can't start MySQL server if the .sock file is changed in /etc/mysql/my.cnf (no replies)

have installed MySQL server 5.5 on Ubuntu 12.04. I am trying to start MySQL server on a different sock file. By default MySQL runs on /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock.

I am trying to run the same server on /var/run/mysqld/mysqld1.sock.

For this I have made the following changes:

Changes to /etc/mysql/my.cnf

[client]
port = 3306
socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld1.sock

[mysqld_safe]
socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld1.sock
nice = 0

[mysqld]
user = mysql
pid-file = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld1.sock
port = 3306
basedir = /usr
datadir = /var/lib/mysql
tmpdir = /tmp
lc-messages-dir = /usr/share/mysql

I also added the following line to /etc/apparmor.d/usr/sbin.mysqld

/var/run/mysqld/mysqld1.sock w,
/var/run/mysqld/mysqld[1-9].sock w,

I also changed the ownership for the directory /var/run/mysqld to mysql user. ls -lA /var/run/ | grep mysqld
drwxrwxrwx 2 mysql mysql 40 Dec 31 17:24 mysqld

However when I try to start MySQL server I get the following error (As a root user)

mysqld --user=mysql --verbose
121231 18:40:56 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled.

121231 18:40:58 InnoDB: Shutdown completed; log sequence number 1595685
121231 18:40:58 [Note] mysqld: Shutdown complete

If I start the server with the default socket file, I am able to start the server. I have googled about this issue but only found solutions suggesting it to be permissions issue. However the permissions seems fine. Some have suggested that AppArmor might be a cause, but I have checked that too - snippet is pasted above.

Can someone provide some clues?

I am not able to setup two database instances on single server .

Procedure i am following is, as described on link : http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/multiple-unix-servers.html

i have configured two different .cnf files for two servers and staring them using commands :
shell> mysqld_safe --defaults-file=/etc/my.cnf
shell> mysqld_safe --defaults-file=/etc/my2.cnf

First command goes through however when i hit second command i get following
error :

InnoDB: The error means mysqld does not have the access rights to
InnoDB: the directory.
InnoDB: File name ./ibdata1
InnoDB: File operation call: 'create'.
InnoDB: Cannot continue operation.

Config file contains following configuration in my2.cnf:

[mysqld]
port = 3307
socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld2.sock
pid-file = /var/lib/mysql2/<servername>.pid
datadir = /var/lib/mysql2
log-error = /var/lib/mysql2/<servername>.err

permissions are as follows :

drwxr-xr-x 5 mysql mysql 4096 2013-01-03 07:28 mysql2

Any solution to resolve this issue?

Hi,

Do I need to uninstall MySql before I upgrade or can I simply install the latest version over the version that I have installed?
