Could not start the service MySQL. (no replies)

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to install MySQL on my Windows 7 machine, it seems to install OK but when it comes to running the "MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard" I get the error "Could not start the service MySQL.". It seems to get through "Prepare configuration" and "Write configuration file" bits OK but then it takes ages thinking about it and eventually says it cannot start the service.

Any help with this would be much appreciated as I need this set up as soon as possible for my university studies.
