Cant't start mysql on CentOS5.4 (no replies)

I installed CentOS 5.4 and want to use mysql. When i type:
mysql
a get error:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

mysql --version
gives:
mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.77, for redhat-linux-gnu (i686) using readline 5.1

When i go to System/Administration/Server Settings/Services there is no mysqld service.

How to start Mysql?
