how to expand my charset on linux? (no replies)

I installed mysql 5.0.18 on linux (compling).

I know that recompling the distribution with a '--with-extra-character=somecharset' option would resolve this problem. But there's too many servers to apply this solution. And what's worse, the 'make' routine is not installed on each server. So that it does not seem a good practice.
Is it feasible to copy some relevant files from a charset-installed server to other servers?
