my.cnf file optional? (4 replies)

Hi,
I have this version of mysql installed in OS X Snow Leopard:

mysql-5.1.45-osx10.6-x86_64

it is in /usr/local/mysql

but I can't find my.cnf in /etc or any other places in the system, is my.cnf file optional?

what I'd like to do is, update the bind ip so that external box can connect to the running mysql server, help?
