Does number of slaves effect mysql replication in master-slave replication scenario (no replies)

Hi All,

A per the MySQL Replication document, its the responsibility of slave to copy the binary logs from master and do the replication and master is dumb in this scenario. So, the number of slaves should not affect the processing on master. Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

Also, if the number of slave effect the mysql data processing, how and what is the optimum number of slaves for a simple master-slave replication.
