We are currently trying to move a well visited web site from an MS Access backend to mySQL. However when we contacted the host provider they gave us the following answer:
“we do not recommend having a MySql database on a windows OS”
Our inhouse development and test servers are windows with mySQL, but the traffic on those is nothing compared to the live site. Does anyone here have experience of running high traffic sites with mySQL on windows? Or would you also tend towards SQLserver for business critical sites when hosted on windows.
Moving from windows in this case is not an option as that would mean a rewrite of the front end.
I had a search around but can’t find an answer, if this has been answered please post a link and I'll have a read through.
I found this: http://dev.mysql.com/tech-resources/articles/introduction-to-mysql-55.html
And this: http://dev.mysql.com/tech-resources/articles/4.1/installer.html
But some real world feedback would be great.
Thanks.
