This is getting really annoying. I've spent hours on this already. I uninstalled a version of MySQL and I'm not trying to reinstall.
I've read dozens of threads on various forums and have done everything. MySQL is still seeing the previous data files or whatever which is fouling up the process.
I've tried:
1. Uninstalling in control panel
2. Delete everything I can find in registry dealing with MySQL (didn't have anything under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Service but I did have it in other places
3. Don't see MySQL as a service listed in control panel/services anymore
4. Delete mysql folder in programs/mysql and in docs and settings/user/appdata and the folder used for the data files.
5. Reboot
I still get the menu come up asking for old root password and then getting hung on "start service"
Shouldn't MySQL address this? I see dozens of threads asking the same question in this forum and others ranging from current to nearly ten years old.
