MySQL 5.7.5 mysql_install_db does not create default config file (1 reply)

Hello,

I am trying to install MySQL 5.7.5 M15 from source in a Debian Wheezy system. As specified in the documentation [1], the mysql_install_db script should create a standard my.cnf file. This is not the case. There is no file created. The only my.cnf files which are available are these:

/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/rpl/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/rpl/extension/bhs/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/federated/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/rpl_ndb/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/ndb_memcache/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/ndb_team/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/ndb_big/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/ndb_rpl/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/ndb/my.cnf
/usr/local/mysql/mysql-test/suite/ndb_binlog/my.cnf

These config files are designed for special purposes. I would need a standard file for training purposes.

The version of the script:
root@debian:/usr/local/mysql# bin/mysql_install_db --version
mysql_install_db Ver 5.7.5-m15, for Linux on x86_64

I am aware that the procedure changes in 5.7.6, but how can I create a standard configuration file ready to use in standard environments with Mysql 5.7.5? I would prefer having a standard file which I can copy (automated and documented :-)).

5.7: Mysterious repeated failed connections using various OS user names (no replies)

I've installed MySQL 5.7.5 m15 to test some things, and I've noticed that after the server starts up, there are constant failed connection attempts using various OS user names. For example:

------------
2015-03-08T21:43:16.383708Z 1 [Note] Access denied for user 'seth'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

2015-03-08T21:49:38.356618Z 98 [Note] Access denied for user 'seth'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
-----------------

These connection attempts never stop, and I don't know what's causing them. As far as I can see, all the permissions everywhere are correct, and there's nothing else on the system that would be trying to connect to the server. It has to be something that mysqld itself is doing?

I'm on OS X 10.10.2, and this happens when starting up a 5.7.x server, but doesn't when I start up 5.5.x on the same machine.

"Unknown variable pass" after upgraed from 5.5.41 to 5.7.5 (no replies)

Hello,

We have the following problem after upgrading MySQL 5.5.41 (pre-installed on our Debian 7 LAMP server from Hetzner) to 5.7.5 version (downloaded from mysql.com).

After updgrading from the default Hetzner configuration (built-in in Debian 7 LAMP) to 5.7.5 version, we have the following situation: packages installed successfully, mysql deamon is running, but mysql, mysql_upgrade and other tools fail.

They report the same error:
mysql: [ERROR] unknown variable 'pass=<default Hetzner mysql root password>'

Such variable does not exist in my.cnf. Neither I can't find this variable somewhere else.

During upgrade, I've set a new mysql root password (of course).

QUestion: where is pass is hardcoded, and how can I solve this problem?

Backup was made. No data was created yet. New version is installed via APT repo. 64-bit version. No support from Hetzner to the moment.

Thank you,
Georgy Blagodatov

should mysql_upgrade be run in slave with a sub version upgrade? (no replies)

hi,

From some mysql Doc, it recommend mysql_upgrade should be executed each time when you upgrade MySQL.

Currently I have master and slave in the same version <5.5.40-1>, now I plan to have minor upgrade to 5.5.42

My question are:
1. Do I need to issue mysql_upgrade after upgraded by rpm ?
2. If need to run mysql_upgrade, is that only run in master server? because it will replicate the change to slave..is that correct ?

Hope the expert can help with these question. thanks

Installing MySQL 5.1.73 on OpenBSD 5.6 (no replies)

I am unable to get MySQL to boot, or run as a "service".

Installation steps followed:

1. pkg_add mysql-server mysql-client

2. Added the "login class" _mysql to /etc/login.conf

# Setting used by MySQL daemon
_mysql:\
:datasize=infinity:\
:maxproc=infinity:\
:openfiles-cur=2048:\
:openfiles-max=4096:\
:stacksize-cur=8M:\
:localcipher=blowfish,8:\
:tc=default:

3. Added MySQL=YES (case sensitive) to /etc/rc.conf.local

4. Added the following lines to /etc/rc.local

if [ X"${mysql}" == X"YES" -a -x /usr/local/bin/mysqld_safe ]; then
echo -n " mysqld "
su -c _mysql root -c '/usr/local/bin/mysqld_safe --user=_msyql &' > /dev/null
fi

The installation seems to otherwise be working. I can start it manually, although I'm not knowledgeable enough to verify the "login class" the daemon is operating under.

Likewise, I have no idea where to find the log messages during startup. Tailing /var/log/messages shows nothing. I'm not sure it's failing, or why it's failing, if a manually started database works just fine.

Any help getting MySQL starting at boot time is greatly appreciated, or any tips & tricks for operation under OpenBSD.

P.S - All of my experience is with CentOS.

Unable to determine the products that correspond with that setup type & the new manifest was not updated because it is not newer than the current (2 replies)

I have win7 x64. I got the same error so followed the instructions and updated the catalog. After my attempt to update it, I got this error " the new manifest was not updated because it is not newer than the current ".
I still can't download mysql. I see from the thread that a lot of people have the same problem with me and you guys did not provide any solutions. We will be happy if you explain how to solve this issue.

Workaround - "Unable to determine the products that correspond with that setup type." (1 reply)

In the logs I saw this;

mysql-installer Information: 10 : Attempting product manifest download from http://wb.mysql.com/installer/manifest.zip.
mysql-installer Information: 10 : New manifest older than current or there was a problem reading it. Discarding

So I downloaded that file directly from their server and it's still WRONG inside of it. However it lists the file names of the previous versions and download URL. On Windows you can find the files here (specifically products.xml);

C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Installer for Windows\Manifest

<ProductSeries name="MySQL Server 5.6" cdnUrl="http://cdn.mysql.com/Downloads/MySQL-5.6/[file]" mosUrl="https://updates.oracle.com/Orion/Services/download/[archive]?aru=[number]&patch_file=[archive]" archiveUrl="http://cdn.mysql.com/archives/mysql-5.6/[file]">

Along with file names; mysql-advanced-5.6.22-winx64.msi & mysql-5.6.22-win32.msi & mysql-5.6.22-winx64.msi & mysql-advanced-5.6.22-win32.msi. So a little educated guessing and you have the correct link. This works for the 64bit & 32bit non-advanced at least, the advanced ones don't seem to work.

Can't set root password on a new install (no replies)

I'm on a windows 2003 server and installed XAMPP v1.8.2 (I believe the last version to work on older windows). This is something I just did a couple days ago on my own desktop with the most recent version of XAMPP, but here I'm having problems. From what I read there are two main ways to set the password.

1. Using http://localhost/security/. Should be pretty straight forward here, I get the warning that no password is set and go to the page to change it, but after it accepts my change and tells me to restart mysql nothing happens, the root password is still blank.

2. Using an SQL update, with localhost/phpmyadmin/. In here I enter the query:
UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('1234') WHERE User='root';
But when I run it I get the error:
#1142 - UPDATE command denied to user ''@'localhost' for table 'user'

I've looked this error up but can't find anything with it relating to the MySQL root password. Just to make sure I ran this query while logged into the server as Administrator and got the same error. I'm guessing whatever is blocking me here is the same reason why it doesn't actually change in attempt #1 using security? Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?
