We are implementing a CMS for our documentation department (XDocs) and need to install MySQL as the database.
I have tried numerous times to install:
mysql-essential-5.1.52-winx64.msi and have even tried mysql-5.5.6-rc-winx64_a.msi. Each and every time the wizard hangs as soon as the Execute button is clicked.
If I run the wizard numerous times I have been able to get the service to install and automatically start but it fails when it tries to apply the security settings.
Here are the settings and details of the installation process:
- Setup Type - Custom
- Destination Folder C:\ProgFiles\MySQL (Data Folder Default: C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\
- Detailed Configuration
- Server Machine
- Transactional Database Only
- C: Installation Path (InnoDB Tablespace Settings)
- Decision Support (DSS)/OLAP
- Enable TCP/IP Networking (port number: 3306) and Enable Strict Mode both checked
- Best Support for Multilingualism with utf8 selected as the character set
- Install as Windows Service (service name: MySQL) checked
- Launch the MySQL Server automatically checked
- Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH checked
- Modify Security Settings

mysql folder - CSM files FRM files CSV files, MYD files, and MYI files
test folder - no files in folder
The MySQL service is not located in the list of services
The command line client and the server instance config wizard are located in the all programs listing.
My computer/software configuration:
Dell Laptop
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9550 @ 2.66Ghz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 64-bit OS
Symantec Endpoint Protection is used but the Antivirus and Antispyware is turned Off, the Proactive Threat Protection is turned Off, and the Network Threat Protection is turned Off.
Windows Firewall has been configured to allow access to port 3306 - tried with Windows firewall on and off.
Windows UAC is turned off.
I have tried the installation as an administrator with the same results.
Does anyone have any ideas of what is happening or something else I can try?
Any help with this will be much appreciated.
