ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: N O) in Windows XP (2 replies)

I am using XAMP for Apache and MySQL.When I try to login to MySQL at cmd as

C:\xampp\mysql\bin>mysql -u root

I get the error as shown in the subject.

Please help
